If You Are a Chaotic Creative…
You are listening to The Novel Writing Podcast, episode 141. I'm your host, Colleen Mitchell. Grab a cup, cozy up, and let's get to writing!
Overview of Today's Episode
Today's episode is the fourth in our series about the possible results you might get by taking the Writing Persona Quiz, linked in the description. This is for you if you are a CHAOTIC CREATIVE!
Understanding the Chaotic Creative
If you get Chaotic Creative, Halie's description and video for you are the perfect place to start. This episode is a companion, much like the first 60 episodes of this podcast are companions to The 60 Day Novel Writing Challenge daily videos.
So, what is a Chaotic Creative, for those of you who maybe didn't get this quiz result or haven't taken the quiz yet? Chaotic Creatives are the type of writer who doesn't like the rules. Making up about 30% of the persona population, they are the second largest group after Skeptical Scribes.
Chaotic Creatives thrive on throwing spaghetti at the wall, trying new things, and starting new projects—sometimes at the expense of finishing the book they’re desperately trying to complete. The real challenge for Chaotic Creatives is the temptation to chase shiny objects or new stories, leading to a cycle of starting but never finishing.
When you're a rebel against the structure that guides you from start to finish, it’s no surprise that making it to the end of a project feels more challenging. However, Chaotic Creatives have a remarkable talent for brainstorming, editing, and finding new ways to tell timeless stories. While there's nothing new under the sun, Chaotic Creatives will move heaven and earth to tell stories in fresh, innovative ways.
How to Channel Your Creativity
If you're a Chaotic Creative and hesitant about starting The 60 Day Novel Writing Challenge, know that it provides the structure you may have lacked until now. It’s versatile to your needs, allowing you to embrace your chaotic nature. Some members have done the challenge backwards, used it to rewrite instead of drafting, or referenced it for a longer writing process.
If you're considering our small group coaching and critique program, it offers the structure and accountability to keep making progress and get help when chaos takes over.
Conclusion
Stay tuned for the rest of the writing persona episodes in the coming weeks! If you haven’t taken the quiz yet to discover your writing persona, check out the link in the description to find out and hear directly from Halie about your result!
That's it for today's episode! If this has been helpful, please leave a rating or review on your platform of choice. While it doesn’t do much for me, it helps other writers find this podcast.
Thanks for joining me, and remember, the first draft is supposed to be garbage.
